A number of media sources are reporting that Mel Gibson's next film will feature characters speaking an obscure Mayan dialect in an adventure story set in the 1500s. Plot details have been kept secret, but the first Spanish conquistadors began arriving in the New World early that century.
Gibson has apparently written the script in English and will have it translated into Mayan. The film will be shot in Mexico and has been picked up by Disney after three other studios reportedly passed on it.

An article on the CNN website reports that an Australian movie fan had his nose bitten off outside a theatre after an argument over the quality of the violent new Bruce Willis movie "Sin City. The 19-year-old victim underwent surgery to reattach the tip of his nose following the brawl late Sunday night outside a movie theater in Bathurst, 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Sydney.
Hilary Swank and Kevin Costner will share narration duties on the upcoming documentary "On Native Soil: The Documentary of the 9/11 Commission Report." Directed by former NBC News producer Linda Ellman, "On Native Soil" will tell five stories of survival and examine the 9/11 Commission's final recommendations. The film features interviews with victims' families, Sen. John McCain, a former FBI counterterrorism official and the former head of the CIA's Osama bin-Laden desk.

The Globe and Mail reports that La Vie avec mon pere (Life With My Father) won the Public's Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. It was the first time a Canadian film has won the award. The film, a comedy about two brothers who are forced to move back in with their once-famous father, will also compete as an official selection at the festival.
Stone, the Oscar winning and often controversial film-maker, has announced plans for a film based on the September 11 attacks in New York. Paramount Pictures is providing funding for the project, which will become the first mainstream film based directly on the terrorist attacks of 2001. Stone revealed that the untitled film will follow the ordeal of two police officers who became trapped in the wreckage of the collapsed twin towers. Nicolas Cage will star as Port Authority Police Sergeant John McLoughlin, who spent 24 hours beneath the Ground Zero rubble with fellow officer William J Jimeno.
The Aristocrats celebrates the art of improvisation and the finest (though foul-mouthed) traditions of stand-up comedy. Directed by Paul Provenza, the documentary revolves around some 100 comedians telling said gag, the punch line of which is "The Aristocrats". With the likes Billy Connolly, Whoopi Goldberg, Eric Idle, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Harry Shearer, Robin Williams and Eddie Izzard doing their own renditions of the filthy story, it may well be the most foul-mouthed mainstream movie ever made.

According to Dark Horizons, Lions Gate has picked up North American rights to "Highlander: The Journey Continues," the fifth film in producer Davis Panzer's lucrative "Highlander" franchise. Panzer is planning three new "Highlander" features over the next two years, starting with "The Journey Continues," directed by Bret Leonard and starring Adrian Paul as the immortal Scottish swordsman.
