Good Night, And Good Luck trailer

Checkout Yahoo's exclusive trailer for 'Good Night, And Good Luck.' George Clooney directs and co-stars in this story of legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow.

The film chronicles the real-life conflict between Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and his House Un-American Activities Committee. With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff, defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist 'witch-hunts'.

Bad Boxoffice Omens?

Director Terry Gilliam (his current release is The Brothers Grimm) is amazed, and for that matter so am I, that a film project starring Johnny Depp as a demon and Robin Williams as an angel is still on the shelf because American investors can't raise $15 million US. Good Omens is an adaptation of a book co-authored by fantasy writers Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The book is a zany tale of the bungling of Armageddon and features an angel, a demon, an 11-year-old Antichrist and a doomsaying witch.

It's shocking to me that with so many sub-par films doing so poorly at the box office that a project with two well-known and talented actors attached to it could not attract such a small amount (small by Hollywood terms) of funding. I'm not an industry expert but I would expect the $15 million to be recouped on DVD sales alone.

Trailer: The Constant Gardener

Check out the trailer for the latest John le Carre novel adaptation, The Constant Gardener.

le Carre shifted from his trademark Cold War espionage to modern-day Africa for his 2000 novel. Now comes the film of the same name, directed by Brazilian Fernando Meirelles, nominated for an Oscar for his "City of God" about violence in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz the film follows the behaviour of the pharmaceutical industry in the Third World and the misuse of supposedly consenting patients in clinical trials.

Spiritual journeys with Tolkien

The Guardian is running a story that claims Tolkien fans do not just watch the films and read the books again and again - they are on a spiritual journey and do their best to forget the ending. A reasearch team, based out of  the University of Wales, explored reactions to the film Lord of the Rings III in 20 countries. The study, conducted in 13 different languages, had almost 25,000 responses - hugely greater than any previous piece of audience research.
