rplogo.jpg

This festival features great GLBT films from around the world. There are films from Germany, Australia, Spain, US and Canada. Reel Pride shows the full range of film types: shorts, features, documentaries.

This year will also feature the second annual Short Film Competition. This screening of 5 Canadian short films is free and features 3 local films. There will be 2 prizes awarded at the screening – $1,000 in-kind from William F. White based on a jury and $1,000 based on audience response. There will be voting all festival long on the "audience favourite" so you’ll get your say too. Another highlight of the week is the "Manitoba Night" at Platform Gallery where a collection local films will be screened.

Visit their website at www.reelpride.org for details.

Man shot and killed at 50 Cent movie

A man was shot and killed this weekend during a screening of the new 50 Cent movie 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' in Pensylvania. Sheldon Flowers, 30, was shot at the Loews Cineplex at West Homestead, near Pittsburgh, after an argument broke out between three people. Flowers, who died in hospital, was carrying an unregistered gun without a permit, according to police.

He had been in the theatre watching a screening of 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'', and became involved in an argument in the mens washroom. It is not known which film the other three men had been watching, according to the BBC. The theatre has removed the film from their programme while the police investigation continues.

How the Death Star Works

You gotta love the website HowStuffWorks.com. It's a fun but serious look at how such an entity would operate and includes vital knowledge in the section: "So What Happens if You Blow Up a Planet?". I have always wondered about that...now I know. All joking aside, the article is definitely worth a read. You might also be interested in their other articles, such as this one about lightsabers.

Office Space with Flair!

Fox Home Video has released an updated version of the cult classic Office Space. If you pick up the Special Edition with Flair, you get your own Swingline stapler just like Milton. This is one of my favorite comedies and if you haven't seen it, its definitely worth picking up. Check out some clips at the Office Space official website.

A few of my favorite quotes from the film:

"PC Load Letter"? What the $@#! does that mean?

Sounds like a case of the Mondays.

"I deal with the damn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people? "
