Two groups of movie goers in Sacramento recently got more than a movie and popcorn. They got robbed at gunpoint. It happened at two different theatres in the Sacremento area in the last few days.
As they exited the theater, the armed suspects had the patrons empty their pockets and remove their jewelry including the money from their wallets and purses. The victims were then told to lie down in the hallway and were searched. The victims were then led into the mens’ bathroom where they were made to take off their shirts and told to lie down on the floor. A theater security officer eventually found the robbery victims and let them out. The suspects were wearing either ski masks or Halloween masks so no one got a good look at their faces. Sheriff's deputies said the victims did everything right, by complying with the robbers' demands. No one was hurt in the robbery.

The largest bust for DVD piracy in Canadian history, was just the tip of the iceberg, in a growing problem, according to authorities. Police seized over 250,000 bootleg movies in raids carried out at three malls in the York Region and Scarborough. The pirated films included recent releases such as "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", which only arrived in theatres on November 18th, and Rent, released on November 23rd.
The sting operation was a joint effort between the RCMP, Canada Customs, York and Toronto police, and motion picture officials. Six merchants at Markham's Pacific Mall were charged with fraud and possession of stolen property, while Toronto police charged a total of 15 people after a raid on a mall near Sheppard Ave. E. and Brimley Rd.

The major US movie studios and BitTorrent Inc. have signed a pact to attempt to curb the piracy of films on the Internet, but the move was referred to by both as an "early experiment." Under the deal, BitTorrent agreed to remove links on their Web site that direct users to illegal copies of films that can be downloaded.
BitTorrent software allows large data files, such as ones that contain movies or TV shows, to be divided into small pieces. These files can then be shared amongst a wide network of users and after all the pieces are downloaded they can be reassembled into the original data. file.
However, because the BitTorrent software is already widely used to pirate movies and other media, the deal is being viewed more as a symbol of change in the industry rather than a move that will have significant impact on piracy.
Personally, it would be nice to see the Hollywood studios coming up with their own plans for distributing movies online. If Apple and others can do it successfully with music, why not the movie industry?
