Premiere Magazine has posted a gallery of what they deem the Top 25 Movie Posters Ever. The movie poster is a very commercial art form but can nonetheless be imaginative and captivating. At their best they are invitations to escape to a dreamscape. Some are profound and some are simply silly but all are interesting in their own unique way.
My personal favourite is the poster for Forbidden Planet. Classic 60s sci-fi look and it features Robbie the Robot! If you'd like to read more about the history of movie posters, I'd recommend either of these fine articles:

Most people remember R2-D2 as that lovable emitter of beeps and whistles who was always there to repair a starship when it was damaged during a mission. Now R2-D2 has a new job: collecting mail for the Postal Service.
The United States Postal Service, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., has transformed 400 of its 280,000 blue mail collection boxes in 200 cities into R2-D2 look-alikes. The boxes, made to appear like the droid by a covering of adhesive wrap, are intended to generate buzz for the sale of a first-class commemorative stamp coincide with the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars.
You can find more information about the promotion at www.uspsjedimaster.com.
Issuing commemorative stamps creates revenue for the Postal Service as both avid and casual collectors tend to buy and save the stamps. The Postal Service maintains a list of the most popular commemorative stamps, and it shows that however attractive the "Star Wars" stamp proves to be, its climb to the top would be a long one. As of year-end 2006, 124.1 million Elvis stamps issued in 1993 had been saved by collectors. That figure does not include the number bought and used as actual postage.
From the co-writer and director of 'The 40 Year Old Virgin', Judd Apatow, comes the new movie 'Knocked Up'. Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doofus a chance.
The movie '300', an adaptation of a Frank Miller graphic novel, opens this Friday. '300' is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite.
I've read about this battle in the classic volume - Twenty Decisive Battles of the World. I'm not convinced that it'll be a 'classic' but it'll likely do well at the box office for a few weekends. However, you can view the clips below and decide for yourself.
